Join Earthcare volunteers for a hands-on citizen science event focused on tackling Northern Pacific Seastars, one of the most significant marine pests affecting Port Phillip Bay. These seastars threaten native biodiversity and shellfish populations and can spread rapidly because of their high reproductive rate and broad diet.Volunteers work in water and land teams to locate, remove and dispose of Northern Pacific Seastars, helping reduce local populations and their impact on the bay's marine ecosystems.
Participants may take part as snorkel crew, dive crew or beach crew, with appropriate equipment and qualifications required for water-based roles.
The event is open to citizen scientists of all ages, with children under 16 required to attend with a parent or guardian. Participants should bring the equipment appropriate to their chosen role, including suitable sun protection and water for beach crew members.
